Neurofeedback: One can best understand Neurofeedback by considering how the body works.
Everything is driven by the brain, including our reactions, thoughts, and behaviors.  The brain
functions through use of chemicals, blood, oxygen, and electricity, or "brain waves."  If any one of
these components is affected, it can change how the others are working in the brain.  For instance, if a
patient takes an ADD medication, then it will affect the chemistry, blood content, and electricity for as
long as the medication is in the system.  But Neurofeedback isn't a temporary "fix" that only lasts for a
few hours.  Once a person has done the Neurofeedback training, then positive changes become
permanent.  And the side effects include better sleep patterns, decreased anxiety, and increased
confidence.

Neurofeedback is simply "Feedback" of the electrical information going on within  the brain ("Neuro",
or nerve).  Training is usually done at least once or twice weekly in the beginning and every session
includes an evaluation by the Doctor. Patients typically require anywhere between 20 and 40 training
sessions in order to change how they are functioning.  While that may be considered expensive, think
about the alternative of taking medications for life, which will include office
visits to your prescribing physicians and the worry of research studies that may discover  problematic
side effects.  If you would not have a problem with having your child fitted with braces, then consider
doing this for him as well.  It's an investment for both you and your family.

This is a painless, non-invasive procedure in which brain waves are monitored by a
computer-based instrument that processes the signal and feeds it back to the patient.  The signal "fed
back" is displayed as a simple computer game, and the patient must then control it with only his brain.
Nothing is done to the patient, other than to encourage him to produce brain waves that are conducive
    to functioning better.

Unfortunately, most insurance companies still do not cover this approach to  change. Training is
included in a 50-minute session, and usually lasts for 30  minutes of Neurofeedback, with the remaining
time dedicated to evaluation of  progress, and psychotherapy, if indicated.
